Facial FAQs
There are so many benefits of regular facials, both for your skin and your overall wellbeing to de-stress, relax and calm the mind. Here are a few questions I’m regularly asked.
There are so many benefits of regular facials, both for your skin and your overall wellbeing to de-stress, relax and calm the mind. Here are a few questions I’m regularly asked.
What happens during a facial?
The first thing we’ll do is have a chat so that I can learn about your current skincare routine, any specific concerns or skin needs and how you want your treatment to make you feel.
During the facial I’ll use different techniques, tools, and products to help to improve your skin health and ensure you leave with healthy-looking and glowing skin. I love facial massage and its benefits so a large part of your facial will include facial massage to reduce muscle tension and increase blood flow. This will really help to achieve the glow and radiance that we all want! Many of my clients fall asleep during facial massage – not only is this okay, it’s actually a good sign as your body switches into its healing and relaxation state. I’ll always finish by applying SPF - even if you do nothing else for your skin, I always recommend SPF (even on cloudy days)!
What types of facials are available?
I will tailor your facial specifically to you and your skin’s needs, but I offer a range of specific hands-on techniques and treatments, such as:
Gua Sha - A Gua Sha is a smooth, multi-edged tool made from high quality crystal that is used to massage, plump and sculpt the face. It’s an ancient technique that has been used for centuries as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine to support the circulatory and lymphatic system, resulting in radiant-looking skin.
Sculptural face lifting massage - This is a great treatment to lift, tone and boost muscle tone and skin elasticity, a bit like a deep tissue massage for the face.
Buccal massage - An ideal treatment if you hold tension around the jaw area. Using sterile gloves inside the mouth, I’ll focus on areas that are inaccessible during external massage. This is a lot more relaxing and enjoyable than it sounds!
LED light therapy - This non-invasive therapy uses different wavelengths of light to penetrate the skin. LED red light helps to target the signs of ageing by enhancing your body’s natural ability to generate collagen and elastin whilst LED blue light supports acne-prone skin by killing bacteria and reducing inflammation.
Your treatment may include a combination of these methods and techniques, but we will discuss which will be most beneficial during your consultation.
How do I know which facial to choose?
It’s not a problem at all if you’re not sure which treatment to go for - we can talk this through during your consultation.
I have sensitive skin; can I still have a facial?
Absolutely! We will discuss any allergies and skin sensitivities before we start the treatment and I’ll select products and techniques to suit your skin.
How often should I have a facial?
Every 4 - 6 weeks is ideal as this is in line with our skin cell turnover cycle (though this does slow down as we age), however it will also depend on your skin type or condition, as well as your personal circumstances. I can also suggest products and a suitable routine for you to use at home.
